Most people will remember their first love! However, researchers have now shown that for teenagers the experience of falling in love for the first time and the intense closeness with another person is mirrored by the bond in infancy between mother and child.
The three stages of love as described above are the same with teenage relationships except that they seem to experience the attraction stage much stronger than adults do but the attachment phase does not last for longer than an average of 3 to 4 months.
During the attraction stage there are certain pathways in the brain which light up in the same way as they would when using cocaine or similar drug, therefore the experience of being in love can literally be addictive.
So what if you're not a teenager? What can you do to find love and how do you best attract someone?
Apparently it can take anywhere between 90 seconds and 4 minutes to decide whether or not we fancy someone. This is based on 55% body language, 38% tone and rate of speech and only 7% what we actually say! Therefore it can be fairly well assumed that no the chat up lines don't work! One psychologist has found that staring into your partners eyes can have a profound effect on romantic feelings. He ran an experiment asking two strangers to reveal intimate details of their lives to the other person for an hour and a half. He then asked them to stare into each others eyes for 4 minutes without talking. A large majority of his testers afterwards confessed to feeling deeply attracted to the other person. Also, when we are looking at something or someone we find attractive our pupils dilate to become larger.
The way that you sit or stand can also have an effect on feelings of attraction. Couples who are physically attracted to one another will tend to 'mirror' the other persons body language. This subconsciously shows us that the other person is also interested in us and is a mark of good communication.
Apparently, playing hard to get is scientifically not a good idea in order to attract a mate and research has shown that it doesn't usually work.
